Dr Yori Endo is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School and a MD-scientist at Brigham and Women's Hospital.
Her research focuses on the fundamental biology of tissue aging and regeneration, integrating molecular and cellular biology, computational approaches, and bioengineering to investigate the mechanisms that govern regenerative potential. Her work seeks to challenge the biological limits of adult tissue regeneration and establish new principles for restoring tissue function throughout life.
Dr Endo received her BSc in Biomedical Science from Imperial College London and her medical degree and MPhil in Translational Medicine and Therapeutics from the University of Cambridge, UK. She subsequently undertook postdoctoral research in Pathology and Surgery at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital, developing expertise spanning molecular mechanisms of inflammation and regeneration, skeletal muscle physiology, and regenerative bioengineering.
Her scientific contributions include investigations into the molecular mechanisms underlying age-related regenerative decline. She has also investigated the molecular and physiological determinants of exercise adaptation during aging, alongside developing biomaterial-based strategies for tissue regeneration following severe muscle injury and cutaneous wounds.
At Endo Lab, Dr Endo examines a fundamental and largely unexplored dimension of regenerative biology: the total capacity of living tissues to regenerate over a lifetime. Her research distinguishes the effectiveness of an individual repair response from the regenerative potential retained for future injury, questioning whether adult tissues possess a finite regenerative reserve and whether its limits can be expanded. Endo Lab integrates experimental models of tissue injury, comparative biology, multi-omics, computational analysis, and engineered biomaterials to investigate the principles governing regenerative capacity across tissues, species, and aging.
Her long-term scientific objective is to establish regenerative capacity as a measurable and therapeutically modifiable property of living tissues, advancing regenerative medicine beyond the improvement of individual repair outcomes towards the expansion of lifelong regenerative potential.
